What have we achieved in 58 years of Independence ?

An Unfortunate Mother Cremating Her Newly Born Kid Who Died Just Entering the Pathetic World.
The scene above is what was seen at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh, a state in India. The Lady is the mother of the kid who was born dead. The patients claim that there were only medical students who were helping with the delivery and that no doctor was present. I know this for sure that at many hospitals run by the goverment, it is usually the final year medical students who oversee deliveries of babies. When I think of the pain the mother is going through, I feel soo bad. The only crime that lady has done is that she was born in a poor family. She is poor and hence she cannot afford to go to good hospitals. This brings us to the question : Why cant the government hospitals be good ? They are always neglected. In the 58 years of independence if a country as big as India cannot ensure minimum child care what has it achieved as an independent country ? We claim to be one of the places where civilisation has started. We are proud of what our fore fathers have established, and yet today we dont work for any betterment of the society. All one cares is about one self. We dont really think of what would happen if we are hit by a vehicle when we are crossing a road and die in an accident and when we look back at life and ask the question "What have I done in this life ?", I wonder how many would have a good answer for it.
